E-mail:whitewaterband@fcboe.org
This course is designed to give the student a love and understanding of all types of music by learning to perform the best of the available band literature.
1. Be on time to every class and rehearsal.
2. When you enter the room you are expected to get your instrument out and sit without talking or playing. You must be seated one minute after the tardy bell rings.
3. Gum, candy, food or drinks are not allowed in the bandroom.
4. Students must have their instrument, music folder, reeds and valve oil, etc. for every class.
5. Have the daily personal planner at your stand each day.
6.
Students
are responsible for knowing all the dates on the band calendar. Missing a concert, rehearsal or event because
they did not check the calendar or did not listen in class is considered
unexcused.
1. Students are responsible for the music and instruments that are checked out to them. All forms and permission forms need to be turned in on time.
2. Students should help keep the bandroom clean at all times.
3. All percussion players must have their own snare drum and stick bag. The bag needs to contain snare sticks, timpani sticks, yarn mallets and bell mallets. The band will not provide these items.
Grades:
The grades will be calculated as follow:
Daily Class Work: 50%
Students will be given points based on preparation for class. Bringing their instrument, music and pencil will figure into the overall grade.
Students will be given weekly playing and written test.
Band Homework/ Practice Records: 20%
The practice record is due either Mon. or Tues. of each week. To receive an “A” on the practice record for the week, they will have to practice 5 days a week, 30 minutes a day. Students may also submit their practice record over the internet.
Classroom Behavior
and Expectations
Students are expected to demonstrate proper and responsible behavior. They are also expected to give their best effort for every class. A system of progressive consequences has been developed to deal with offenses that are in nature of nuisance rather than serious problems. These consequences are not given for offenses of a more serious nature which demand the immediate attention of the band director and/ or the school administration. Disrespect or disobedience will call for immediate disciplinary actions. Each student will begin at 0 the 0 level at the beginning of each 9 weeks. The following are the levels and the corresponding consequence.
1st infraction - Detention
w/ Mr. Melton 4th infraction - Office Referral
2nd infraction- Detention w/ Mr.

3rd infraction- Parent Contact

Performances:
All performances count as a test grade. Parents should clear all commitments on days of concerts. All Symphonic Band members are required to attend performances.
Football Band (7th and 8th Grade)
The members of the Symphonic Band have to be members of the football band. This band is opened to 7th and 8th graders. Any Symphonic Band member who has attended the rehearsals and performances for football band and Symphonic Band and have shown a superior behavior and attitude will be eligible to go on any scheduled spring band trip.
1. The Symphonic Band will rehearse every Monday and Thursday, 3:50-4:50p.m.
2. To be in Symphonic Band students must attend rehearsal.
3. If a student needs to be absent then a note signed by the parent explaining the reason must be given to the director before the absence or the absence is considered unexcused.
4. After a student has accumulated 3 unexcused absences the student will be removed from Symphonic Band. A parent conference will be scheduled to determine whether the student continues in Symphonic Band.
5. Please try to schedule all doctor’s and dentist appointments on days other than rehearsal days.
1. The band room has shelves that can be used to store instruments during the day. Since shelves do not have locking doors, it is a good idea to put some type of locking device on the case. This will help in providing maximum security.
2. All instrument cases and books must be clearly identified with the student’s name at all times. The completion of this will be used in the grading process.
